Ministry of Labour

The Ministry of Labour is responsible for the labour and immigration policy guidelines and their implementation. The Ministry of Labour develops the functioning of working life and promotes employment.

The goal is to reduce structural unemployment, fight exclusion and secure the availability of skilled labour. The aim is to enhance work productivity so that it will have a sustainable quality. The aim is also to create preconditions for active work-based immigration policy and to increase entrepreneurship and self-employment.

The activities of the Ministry of Labour are based on tripartite cooperation. The employers’ and employees’ organizations are involved in developing working life at all levels of the labour administration. The Ministry of Labour is directed by the Minister of Labour, who is assisted by the Permanent Secretary and the management group of the Ministry. The Employment and Economic Development Centres, their Labour Market Departments and the employment offices form the regional and local administration of the Ministry of Labour.

Vision 2010

Finland is an affluent society with job opportunities for everyone. The employment services have been reorganized so as to meet the challenges of the new labour market situation and the changing working life.
